February 2009 Pope Benedict XVI announced that he has approved the canonisation of Blessed JEANNE JUGAN Foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor, and that he will canonise Jeanne as a Saint on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 at Saint Peter's Square in Rome. The Pope's announcement came at a meeting of Cardinals held in Rome. The meeting, known as an ordinary public consistory, was called by the Holy Father so that he could receive the advice of the Cardinals regarding the possible canonisation of Jeanne Jugan, and other Blessed from Italy, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and Poland.

Mother General Celine de la Visitation, expressed her joy over the announcement, of the canonization ceremony, the last step in a long process. "This is truly a joyous occasion for all of us," said Mother Celine. "Catholics everywhere, and especially in Cancale, the birthplace of Jeanne, will rightfully rejoice at this great news."

Clearly, God worked through Jeanne Jugan who did His Will and was of service to the poorest of the poor. She is a shining example to all believers and to all people of good will.
